Rainbow Wedding Cake

rainbow cake

I saw a news report this week about a rare quadruple rainbow that was spotted over New York State. As a big fan of rainbows I thought that would be pretty cool to see.

And then I found this rainbow dot wedding cake and my week was made!

I love this wedding cake so very much. It’s fun and whimsical and pretty much screams “spring!” in a refined way, of course.

The rainbow on the cake is formed by “dots” of icing – starting with white at the top and going through all the colors of the rainbow including pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.

You’re guaranteed an awesome wedding reception with this cake!

Blackberry Wedding Cake

blackberry cake

I’ve recently decided that I need to eat more fruit and fresh berries are currently on the top of my list of must-have snacks.

So, when I saw today’s wedding cake I just knew I had to share it with you because it looks delicious and it would be perfect for a spring or summer wedding.

This two-tier blackberry wedding cake is absolutely stunning thanks to the blackberries surrounding each tier.

The icing is also infused with crushed blackberries, giving it that gorgeous swirled look.

You could have any kind of cake inside, but I think something not-too-sweet would be best.

And of course, if blackberries aren’t your favorite, raspberries would be incredible on this cake and so would blueberries. Oh just imagine a lemon based cake and a light lemon icing infused with blueberries.

Oh that would be divine!

Strawberry Wedding Cake

strawberry naked cake

One of my favorite summertime fruits is the strawberry! They’re sweet and perfect and can be used in so many ways, even on a wedding cake!

I love strawberry shortcake and today’s naked wedding cake reminds of that sweet treat.

This wedding cake was created with pound cake (of course!) and layers of mascarpone cream and strawberries. I think it might be my new favorite spring or summer wedding cake.

Imagine how perfect this cake would be at your late spring or early summer wedding – especially if you just happen to be planning an outdoor reception!

This is a “naked” wedding cake trend I would definitely like to see at a summer wedding!

St. Patrick’s Day Wedding Cake

shamrock cake

Tomorrow we’ll all be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and the wearing o’ the green, so today seemed like a good day to showcase a cake with little green shamrocks!

This lovely three-tier cake is iced with gorgeous rolled fondant which is decorated with sugar paste four leaf clovers.

I love that this cake is elegant yet whimsical and would be perfect for any bride looking for the Luck O’ the Irish on her wedding day!

And because the shamrocks are small and lovely you really could use this cake at any time of year, not just around St. Patricks’s Day.

Gray Wedding Cake

dark gray wedding cake

OK so maybe you haven’t given much thought to a gray wedding cake – after all gray is usually synonymous with dreary things.

But it can actually be a stunning color on your cake when it’s done the right way.

This three-tier cake isn’t drab or depressing – the charcoal gray icing is dark and elegant and set off by colorful fruit, succulents, and gold leaves.

As much as I’m a fan of traditional wedding cakes when I see cakes that showcase ‘thinking outside the cake box’ design it’s exciting. And this charcoal gray cake is a new favorite.

Of course a cake this color might not work in the middle of the summer when everyone is expecting bright and cheery colors, but for a fall or winter wedding it would be ideal. Imagine how stunning this cake would be if bright red apples were used as accents in the fall!

Would you ever consider a charcoal colored wedding cake?

White One-Tier Wedding Cake

one tier cake

There’s something to be said for an elegant, one-tier wedding cake.

With a smaller cake there’s no muss, no fuss but the cake can still steal the show.

While I’m a fan of big, elegant and fancy wedding cakes I also like the smaller cakes.

Whether you’re hosting a small, intimate reception and you don’t need a big cake, or you’re planning on serving other desserts (cupcakes, a dessert bar, or maybe a cheese wedding cake) – a one-tier cake can be perfect for so many reasons.

I really like this one-tier cake. First, it’s an almost ‘naked’ cake with minimal frosting. Because as much as I like frosting, you don’t want to drown a one-tier cake in too much buttercream.

And second, it’s just pretty. The fresh white roses and greens give the cake an elegant vibe, while the thin layer of icing allows the dark hue of the cake to peek through. It’s picture perfect.

This is an ideal cake for your small, elegant reception.

Pink Macaron Wedding Cake

pink macron cake

There are fancy wedding cakes and then there are cakes that are just out-of-this world.

This pink macaron wedding cake fits neatly in the second category.

There is so much going on with this cake that your eyes aren’t sure where to look first – but that’s a good thing!

The three tier square cake is covered in light pink fondant and then macarons – some pink and some playing into the abstract art of the peony cake topper.

The cake is elegant and very pink – you would have to really love pink for this to be your cake. But somehow it all works. The peony cake topper’s colors play off the pink hue of the cake and the handpainted macarons repeating the peony’s design tie it all together.

This pink macron cake won’t work for everyone, but if you can make it work it’ll be a show stopper.

Black Fondant Wedding Cake

black wedding cake

This cake is so non-traditional and it’s not for everyone.

But I love it!

Now you’ll probably need to be a rather modern, edgy bride to choose black fondant as the icing on your wedding cake. But if this is what you’re looking for in a wedding cake I say go for it!

I love the modern vibe of this cake. I love the bright colors. It could be my new favorite cake.

And there’s nothing “goth” or Halloween-ish about this cake thanks to the bright green dots that adorn the black fondant and the bright and cheery flowers.

This cake would be perfect any time of year but I see it making a huge statement at a winter wedding.

Fun Wedding Favors – Bottles of Bubbles

bubbles

Who doesn’t love blowing bubbles? It’s so fun and takes you back to the lazy summer days of childhood.

Personally, I love bubbles as wedding favors. It might seem “old fashioned” to some, but we passed out bubbles at my wedding and some of my favorite photos are of my husband and I walking out of the church surrounded by tiny bubbles!

But enough with the nostalgia!

Let’s talk about these super cute personalized bubble bottles. You can choose from 14 different label designs (including zebra print and chevron!) and 16 different colors so it’s almost a guarantee that you’ll find something to match your wedding theme.

Bubbles can be passed out after the ceremony or at the reception – they would be especially fun for an outdoor reception in the spring or summer. And they’re a less expensive favor than say, edible favors.

You can find these personalized bubble bottles here.

Pancake Wedding Cake

pancake wedding cake

No, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you.

That headline really says “pancake wedding cake.”

When I saw this “wedding cake” as I was searching for something fun and whimsical I knew it just had to be shared.

We’ve seen a lot of unconventional wedding cakes around here – OREO cookie cakes, chocolate chip cookie cakes, doughnut cakes, and even cakes made out of cheese.

But a three-tier wedding cake made out of pancakes is a first. And I have to be honest – I love it!

Imagine how much fun this cake would be at your morning or brunch time wedding reception. You can pair it was a dessert table filled with doughnuts, croissants, and other yummy breakfast sweets.

It’s just such a fun cake idea and would be perfect for a smaller, casual reception.

Would you ever have a non-cake wedding cake?
