What calls for special attention is that a terminally ill Chinese woman has married her long-time boyfriend in her hospital bed after receiving a surprise wedding proposal earlier the same day.
Yang Liu, 39, eventually got married with her boyfriend, Peng Xin at the hospital in Hubei province where she is receiving treatment, after an eight-year courtship, Hubei Radio and Television reported.
“I have imagined my wedding on many occasions,” said Yang, a supermarket cashier from Wuhan, who has been told she has less than five years left to live. “I never thought that it would take place in a hospital, but I am just as happy.”
Yang was diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer in February, when it was already impossible for her to have life-saving surgery carried out.
Peng, 43, who is an air-conditioner technician, from Sichuan province, then applied to take a long leave of absence from work so that he could take care of Liu every day.
However, the couple’s parents have never approved of their relationship. When Liu’s condition became more stable after a month of treatment at the Central Hospital of Wuhan, Peng secretly planned to surprise her by proposing and marrying her.
After obtaining the approval of Liu’s doctor to hold the wedding in the hospital room, Peng prepared the for the ceremony with the help of donations from doctors and nurses at the hospital.
Peng proposed yesterday and the couple married later the same day, with both their families in attendance. At that, two doctors from the hospital acted as witnesses at the wedding.
