Rob, from Co Clare, and Fiona, who’s Irish yet grew up in the Isle of Man, met during studying in UCD. In 2014, after years together, Rob took Fiona on a surprise trip to Connemara where they went for a walk near Old Head, and took his opportunity to pop the question on a beautiful stony beach.
The pair decided on a humanist ceremony at The Granary in Borris House, Co Carlow.
“The house, the grounds, the exposed stone ceremony rooms, the accommodation for our families, the village itself – all those factors clicked and it was exactly what we were looking for to have a really intimate wedding,” says Fiona.
Simplicity was important to this couple as were the small details, but the most important thing was bringing their family together to enjoy the celebration.
“It was really important for us that all our nieces and nephews were a big part of the day so we had a small kiddies’ tent and play area in the dining room. There was loads of space for them to play outside and run around.”
The bride found her dress at The Suite on Drury Street, when the groom found his suit when visiting a friend in Spain. Fiona was delighted with hair stylist Leavern Oman and make-up artist Anne Hutton who gave her the perfect finishing touches. The couple decorated The Granary where their ceremony was held and their friend Suzie made bunting for the dining room.
After their big day Rob and Fiona took the trip of lifetime exploring Rwanda and Tanzania, before finishing with a relaxing break in Zanzibar.
