Pictou Lodge in Nova Scotia was a natural choice for us to have our wedding. I grew up in Pictou County and am a beach girl at heart. So I have always imagined getting married in a beautiful outdoor venue by the beach. Dan had been to the lodge before for their famous Sunday brunch while visiting my family on a summer vacation, and he is actually the one who first mentioned having the wedding here. It was perfect, at least half of our guests would be coming from out-of-town, whether it was Vancouver or Halifax, and Pictou Lodge could accommodate them all in fantastic cabins. They didn’t even have to leave the lodge all weekend if they didn’t want to, with lots of activities nearby and a restaurant on site. The most exciting part of the day was walking up the aisle and feeling all the love from the crowd, then Dan staring so deeply into my eyes during the entire ceremony before the perfect kiss!
Our theme was an elegant but casual by-the-sea Nova Scotia bash. We had lots of Maritime touches, like a fiddle player for the ceremony, a lobster trap for gift cards, sand dollar chocolates decorated with the Nova Scotia tartan for favors, and seashells in the centerpieces. Our cake was a work of art exploding with edible flowers, seashells and sand. We even had my two nieces do a traditional Irish dance in between cocktail hour and dinner. Pictou Lodge has such a rustic and natural charm on its own, we didn’t need much to dress it up besides lots of romantic candlelight from lace wrapped mason jars and twinkle lights on the ceiling. My favorite flower is the tiger lily, which my parents had hundreds of around their farmhouse growing up, so the colors we chose were based on this flower, along with other sunset colors – bright orange-coral, with touches of gold and champagne. My earrings, shoes, and sash were all gold-champagne and my bouquet was filled with tiger lily’s and huge peachy roses, accented with orange hypercicum berry, and the guys had the berries as their boutonnière.
Lori’s Dress Search
I started my dress search in love with Vera Wang’s, Diana. I had visions of walking down the aisle in that dress from day one. However, my mom wasn’t in love with the pouffy and deconstructed style, and since she had offered to help me pay for my dress, I wanted to get something she loved too! This formfitting but flowy gorgeous lace dress was something that made both of us happy. It was a bit more traditional and romantic, and I knew it would suit my seaside venue and rustic theme perfectly.

Why Lori Decided to Sell Her Wedding Dress
Although I loved my dress and the way it made me feel and look on my big day, I have more than enough pictures to help me remember it! I would love for another girl to feel the same way I did, at a better price so they can spend more on something else they want to include in their budget! I will be giving all the money back to my mom, who retired last year, as a thank-you for her generous gift of this dress to me.
