Blush pinks and rose golds were the color highlights at this restaurant wedding and reception held in the Lincoln Park neighbourhood of Chicago. Rachel and David infused their day with modern style and contemporary twists on wedding traditions, making their day a very personal celebration shared with their best friends and family.
Rachel + David | August 16, 2014 | Chicago, Illinois | Dress Listing: Mark Zunino, 32694952
We had a ceremony in the round; it was just us and our officiant (one of the my best friends) standing in the center. Around us, immediate family and bridal party seated in twelve chairs, and the rest of the guests standing in a circle around the ceremony. Our moms provided introductions to the wedding, which made the ceremony even more personal, warm and intimate.
Our favorite parts of other people’s weddings are the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing, so we decided to combine all of our favorite elements and leave out almost everything else, including formal seating arrangements, the bouquet toss, and other wedding traditions that weren’t really important to us. The ones that were — like toasts, first dances, and an intimate, private cake cutting — we kept.
Rachel’s Dress Search
I tried on about two dozen dresses in two cities: Chicago and New York. The process wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be; it’s hard to find just one dress that really captures who you are as a woman and as a bride on your wedding day. So hard, in fact, that I couldn’t settle on one dress and ended up with two! My main dress was a Mark Zunino mermaid gown made out of gorgeous buttercream tulle, which I purchased from Kleinfeld in New York. It fit like a glove and made me feel gorgeous!

Sophisticated, confident, fun.
Why Rachel Decided to Sell Her Wedding Dress
I always planned to sell my main dress. It was well over my budget but made me feel fantastic, so selling it meant I got to wear it without bankrupting myself, and another bride could love it and wear it again, too!
