The red carpet at the 2015 Grammy Awards was filled with the plunging necklines, see-through dresses and over-the-top wigs, so it might be hard to believe that we found any inspiring bridal-worthy beauty looks that wouldn’t make your Grandmother faint. But amongst the crazy, we uncovered a few looks that we could totally envision walking down the aisle. While the getups might have been audacious, some of the beauty looks were really pretty, muted and simple. Even Sia, with her frizzy-eyecovering wig, wore a matte red lipstick that had us frantically checking Sephora for the perfect match. Stars like Jennifer Hudson, Gwen Stefani and Beyoncé really turned it out with their subtle cat eyes, fluttery lashes, groomed brows, beachy waves and pretty pouts. See a round up of our favorite looks below!
Gwen Stefani teamed bold lashes with glossy nude lips for a total a red carpet win. To get this look, apply partial lash strips to the outside corners of your eyes. Just make sure you trim your fake lashes so they aren’t all the same size—that way they will look more natural. To make your look even bolder, line your top lash line with a black liquid liner.
Jennifer Hudson added a pop of color to her all-white ensemble with a purple lip stain. The satin finish had the perfect dose of sheen without looking too sticky. When it comes to choosing the right lip color for you, work with the undertones in your skin. If you’re more fair, stay away from blue undertones in your lipstick (like the above). Instead, opt for lip colors with pink undertones.
Celebrity hairstylist, Kim Kimble, achieved Beyonce’s edgy, soft wave with a lightweight regime—something that would hide frizz without making her hair look too flat. First, she used Pantene Pro-V Full & Strong PowerFULL Body Booster Spray to add shine and volume while still keeping her hair manageable. Then, she took a flat iron to create loose waves. She placed the flat iron a few inches below her root and twisted it a turn and a half before sliding the iron down the hair shaft. “This adds a curl throughout the entire length of hair,” explained Kimble, “while also smoothing it out and making it look effortless.”
For that edgy bride that wants to spice up her wedding day look, try this rum-raisin lip. Jessie J paired her bold lip with slicked-back hair and super long lashes for a glam look that looked elegant, but not too over-the-top. The most important thing to remember when you’re doing this look on your own is to use a lipliner to shade the outline of your lips and create clean lines.
Rihanna’s biggest feature last night was her pink tiered gown, but what we noticed were her perfectly groomed brows. She let them take center stage and kept the rest of her makeup muted and nude with just subtle pops of pink on her lids and lips. Use an angled brush to touchup your own brows and then a spooley to blend together.
Anna Kendrick played it cool in a sexy suit and smoldering eyes. She gently lined her top and bottom waterline for an edgy touch without looking too smokey and bold. To get this look, Celebrity Makeup Artist, Vanessa Scali, used the Becca Ultimate Creme Eyeliner—it goes on gentle without running or smudging.
