20 Awesome Mother / Son Wedding Dance Songs

Get your dancing shoes on because it’s time for some more wedding music ideas!

The response to this post on The Top 20 Best Father/ Daughter Dance Songs Ever has been amazing. I’ve loved reading all the comments from you lovely lot sharing your sentimental father / daughter dance choices and the meaning behind them.

I also had quite a few requests for mother/son dance song suggestions because, let’s face it, the father/daughter dance (and aisle walk) gets all the attention. But what about our gorgeous grooms and their proud mums?

I’m thrilled to welcome Colleen of Soundtrack To I Do, a wedding blog dedicated to all things music related to share her awesome and wonderfully eclectic mother/son dance song suggestions.

There’s golden oldies, a little bit o’ country, tear jerkers, R n B numbers and obscure indie tracks to suit a variety of grooms and their mums.

I often hear that couples have a difficult time selecting a song for the mother/son dance. This does not surprise me. So many love songs are (fittingly) about lovers, and not about parent/child relationships. And for whatever reason, there seem to be more songs that are suited to the father/daughter dance than the mother son – at least in terms of popularity.

If you were struggling to find the perfect song for the groom to dance with his mama at your wedding, fret no more! Here are some great options –most sweet and sentimental, some with a little edge, but all fitting for the occasion and free of awkward lyrics. Enjoy!

Many thanks to Colleen for sharing this brilliant playlist!

Which is your favourite? Do you have any mother/son dance song suggestions to share?

My favourite tracks are Mom, I hadn’t heard it before but it’s so apt and not cheesy. Simple Man because it’s a little bit of unexpected rock and A Song For Mama ~ Boyz II Men’s soulful tunes get me every time. *wipes tears*
